Abigail and Ansley always have the funniest things to say. They learned to talk well and in complete sentences pretty early, and I think it's because there are two of them, and they would teach each other things as they went along. They talk all of the time, asking millions of questions, and love talking to people that we meet out in public. They have never met a stranger (which I know will be hard for us to get through when teaching safety lessons.) They definitely get their being social butterflies from their Daddy. He is exactly the same way, meeting new people where ever he goes.
The day to day conversations around our house can sometimes be a little interesting. Here are just a few of the latest:
On the way to school one morning...
Abigail: "Daddy, guess what!"
Daddy: "What, Abigail?"
Abigail: "You have two pretty girls!"
After Daddy and I had a date night and had gotten home...
Ansley: "Mommy, what do you smell like?"
Mommy: "I don't know, Ansley. What do I smell like?"
Ansley: "
Krispy Kreme"
(The funny thing about this is, Eric and I stopped at
Krispy Kreme on the way home to get some Halloween donuts to surprise them the next morning. Eric and I looked at each other in amazement...we did smell like
Krispy Kreme.)
Before watching a little movie before going to bed, Abigail was asked if she wanted to cuddle on the couch...
Abigail: "No, I just want to watch the movie and hangout."
Anytime Ansley senses that she might be in trouble or might have done something that disappoints you (or if her sister has and she wants to be sure she isn't in trouble too), we have this conversation...
Ansley: "Mommy (or Daddy...or whomever she is with), are you happy with me?"
Other person: "Yes, I am happy with you."
Ansley: "Then laugh at me."
Other person...better laugh. Ansley then laughs too and smiles real big and continues on with what she was doing.
While playing with the Little People Noah's Ark set...
Abigail: "Mommy, look at Moses on the ark."
Mommy: "Abigail, you know it's Noah that was on the ark."
Abigail: "No, Mommy, this is Moses."
Mommy proceeds to tell the Noah story again, a little frustrated because she knows that Noah was on the ark, not Moses.
Abigail sighs and says: "Well, Mommy,
Moses is on my ark!"
I had just folded lots of towels and put them on the stairs. I look down and the girls are happily unfolding them and rolling them back up. I quickly asked them what they were doing and why they were unfolding my towels. Ansley responded, "Mommy, I am not. I am just rolling them up like a Blue Coast Burrito!" Can you tell we have eaten there a few times and she has watched them make the burritos?!
Last night as we were saying our prayers at dinner:
Abigail: "Thank you, God, for Mommy, Daddy, all of my friends. And thank you for the Titans that have lost their way and stayed home. Amen."
I immediately looked at Eric in confusion, as he started to bust out laughing. Evidently on the way home, he had told the girls that the Titans weren't playing so well and we need to pray for them so that they remember to show up and play at the game. So, Abigail remembered them in her prayers!
Abigail and Ansley ask a lot of questions about my cat I had when I was little:
Ansley: "Mommy, did Rascal die?"
Mommy (not wanting to talk about dying): "Yes, Ansley, she went to heaven."
Abigail: "Did the sky just tear open and she go up in it?"
Ansley: "And then it was closed back up with tape?"
Mommy...speechless.
Other things I am loving to hear them say right now:
"
Pupcake" for cupcake
"
Drooved" for past tense of drive (drove)
"Luck it" instead of "lick it"
"
Glassable" instead of "breakable"
Ansley is the negotiator. If you tell her something we are about to do and she doesn't want to do it, she won't necessarily throw out ideas, but she will say "How about we try...?" Or "Maybe we could..." It's pretty much the same approach Eric and I use a lot of the time when trying to make them think things are their ideas so they go over a little better. I guess she thinks she can pull the same thing on us?
And these are from back at the beginning of the year when they were almost 3, and I need to post so I can remember them:
(1/09)
After eating broccoli for the first time and both girls really enjoying it, I asked them if they wanted more. Ansley replied: "No. I am tired of broccoli."
After trying to get the girls to go to bed and stay in bed:
Mommy: "Why did you get up?"
Abigail: "Because"
Mommy: "Why?!"
Abigail: "Annie waked me up."
Mommy: "Ansley, why did you wake Abigail up?"
Ansley: "Because Abigail was breaking her bed."
(I have no idea.)
(1/19/09)
Abigail was crying so I asked: "What hurts, Abigail?!"
Ansley responds: "It's her feelings Mommy!"
(2/2/09)
Ansley was trying to find another pen for Abigail and was unsuccessful. Abigail asked for her pen, and Ansley said "That's not an option."
(2/09)
Abigail wasn't eating her food at dinner. So Ansley asked if Abby was in trouble. Abigail responds: "I am not in trouble. I am in charge!" (No kidding!)
(2/10/09)
After the girls had watched Sleeping Beauty, Ansley remembered to pray for the "Scary Lady" during her prayers.
(2/20/09)
Abigail: "Look, Annie, Look!" She then shows her Mommy's Razorback purse that she hadn't seen before.
Ansley, smiling real big, and searching for the right words: "That's cool!"
(5/09)
I was getting on to both girls for something and was pretty frustrated. Abigail looked at me and said, "Mommy, you need to chill out!"
